A few years ago, we spent a lot of time testing and researching bike-locks. We tested different materials, lock styles and spoke to lots of different people – the conclusion was clear, if somebody wants to cut through a lock, they’re going to. However, the research also showed that any lock, no matter what it is, is often enough deterrent for thieves. Stopping quick impulse grabs is often enough to keep your bike safe for short stops. As such, the project changed. It wasn’t about a super secure lock that could not be broken, it was about a lock that was good to transport and good to use. Something for you to use at your favourite mid-ride pause (although the original name of beer-garden lock was vetoed by my wife!)

To begin with, we found a robust and sturdy mechanism for closing and opening; something that couldn’t be pulled apart and would keep performing after years of use. For the cable, we chose a coiled braided-steel design to keep size and weight to a minimum, while adding a protective outer coating to make cutting more difficult. The result is a lock compact enough to take everywhere, yet secure enough to provide peace of mind when you need it.
