As an engineer often onsite, I learnt the frustration of not having the right tool, or having the right tool and it breaking when you need it. As such, when we decided to make a cycling multitool, I had a very clear vision: chrome-vanadium tools (for proven robustness) in a flat profile that fitted easily in a pocket and securely in the palm of your hand, so you create leverage when needed. We wanted no loose bits, or things to fiddle with on the side of the road. We wanted all the tools you could need, in an easily stored package that could sit waiting to be used.

For 6 months, I kept a list of the tools I used on my bikes or equipment and then we converted the list into a tool. (We also added a Mavic sprocket wrench at the request of my father-in-law who rides vintage bikes.) We put rounded aluminium sides on the tool, which were light and robust, then sealed it with 2.5mm hex headed axles, so you could take it apart… if there was ever any reason to.
